Week 29

 Dear Parents,

In math we began our unit on fractions. We are working on halves, fourths, and eighths. A fraction is something that has been divided into equal pieces. Every piece has to be the same size. If all the pieces are not the same size then the object does not represent a fraction. The chant to help us remember which number is the numerator and which is the denominator is: “ The top number is the shaded, the bottom number is the parts! “

In writing we began our class procedural paper on how to draw a crab. Next Week they will choose their own how to topic and write their own paper. We are also learning about prepositions to make our writing more exact, and easy to follow.

In social studies we are learning all about economics. They are really excited to have a job and receive pay. The earnings list and fines list are really helping the children be motivated to do and be their best! Our room has never been so clean!

In science we have begun our plant unit. We are learning about the basic needs of plants , their parts, and the functions of those parts!

Here is the sign up link for Spring Conferences. These are student lead conferences so please have your child attend with you. You will put the name of the parent/parents attending and your child’s name when you choose your slot. I am looking forward to meeting with you and your child.

Week 28

Dear Parents,

What a wonderful, but busy week! First of all I wanted to thank my families who made it to Open House! We had a great turn out. It is such an important day for your child. We’ve been saving up our best work all year. The children can really see their growth as the items in their pockets were in time order. We went from writing simple sentences to writing a research paper. There is so much hard work to celebrate in their pockets. If you were unable to come, all the work went home with your child after school yesterday. Make sure to let them tell you all about it!

Yesterday was our Fun Run! Thank you all for making this a great fund raiser for our school! A note went home today discussing the collection from your child’s sponsors. We have already collected over $900 for our school. You all are amazing!

In math this week we finished up unit 8 on addition/ subtraction with regrouping and took our assessment. I was so impressed how the class worked hard and used their strategies! They all did well.

In Writing/Reading/ Social Studies we focused on now and then. We learned many interesting facts about communication, home, school, toys/games, and transportation. We learned how all of those things changed over time. Life was very different long ago! We culminated this unit with a flip book showing what we learned.

In science we finished our unit on weather. Your children were the first to take a district wide assessment of their weather knowledge by completing a performance task. They had to record the temperature, wind speed/ direction, cloud cover, and amount of precipitation. They had to look for patterns in the weather, and know appropriate clothing, activities and transportation for seasonal weather. They did a fantastic job! As they finish they will write a script to report the weather live from Ms. Carpenter’s classroom! They did a fantastic job!

*Dear Hebron feeder family,

We would like to invite all of the students from our middle and elementary schools to come watch the water polo games on March 22nd.  All students get in free if they are wearing a Hebron or a Hebron feeder shirt.  Adults admission is $5.  The games are at 5:00, 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00pm on Tuesday 3/22/2022 at the LISD Eastside Aquatic Center.

Water polo is a relatively new sport to LISD and will become a UIL sport in the Fall.  Many kids don’t know much about water polo so it is a great opportunity to come check it out.

Week 27

 Dear Parents,

This week in math we continued practicing 3 digit addition and subtraction, we solved story problems as well as wrote our own story problems. Our assessment will be next Wednesday.

In writing we finished our final copies of our research paper about Helen Keller. We will be sharing these at our Open House on March 9th from 5:30-7:00.  The children have a full pocket of their best work to share. I hope all of you can come!

In social studies we continued learning about famous Americans. This time it was Roberto Clemente. We started our own famous American research pyramid for Black History Month.

For read across America Day We read a Scholastic News about all the wonderful types of books that are available for us to read. I hope you enjoyed watching the Bedtime stories that CRE teachers recorded for you.

In Science we were so excited to graph our weather and chart the weather using the weather tools. We are getting really good at reading the thermometer. For once we wish it would rain so that we could see the water in our rain gauge. We even learned the directions while outside so we could tell the direction the wind is blowing.

 * Thank you for signing up for the Boosterthon Fun Run! Just for signing up your child can earn a sports bracelet. I am always amazed at how generous our parents are! Thank you for supporting our school!

  • Habit Six Newsletter went home today in your child’s Coyote Folder. If your child brings it back by next Wednesday they can earn 3 stickers for their charts.
  • We were completely out of snacks. Journee’s mom just sent some in for today, but if you can donate snacks to the class again, it would be appreciated. Individual bags of Goldfish are best for the allergies in our room. It’s grab and go. ðŸ˜Š
