More second grade swimmers!

Swimming Fun!

Week 36

Dear Parents,
This week flew by … especially with our learning to swim program! Your children did an excellent job; You would have been proud of them!
We finished up all grades this week. There will be no more grades taken. Math and Reading logs are done as well, but please encourage your child to read and work on math facts a little each day this summer. Set the routine and you will be amazed at how they continue to progress!
This is our last news letter this year … can you believe it? This has been a wonderful class! I feel confident of each child’s success next year. It is always hard for me to say goodbye to my sweet students! There may be tears because I will miss them, but I send them off to new learning adventures as I keep them forever in my heart. Thank you again for partnering this year with me! You have made all the difference!

Habitat Projects

Drum Assembly for Cultural Day

Week 35

Dear Parents,
What a great week! The children were so excited about their animal projects and reports! Thank you for helping to guide them through it. They all did a fantastic job! They loved sharing their hard work.
They are also looking forward to swimming next week. Make sure you read over the letter in your child’s coyote folder so that they are prepared for next Tuesday.
We Are finishing up our last unit in math on graphing, then will take our end of the year CBA next Friday! This week was our last reading comprehension test and the children had to work hard being reading detectives to find their answers in the story. They needed to be able to sequence the events in the story, which can be a hard skill to learn. I was very proud of their effort. Language is winding down as well as we finish up with prefixes/ suffixes and prepositions. Their last writing assignment will be a second grade memory book. We will finish up our science units with plant characteristics. We are planting some seeds today which should sprout while we are home over this three day week end. I hope you have a wonderful holiday week end with your families!

* A special thank you goes to Angela Broomfield for going with us to LISDOLA and to Cate Crane and Veronica Cooper for writing out a poem on your child’s keepsake pillow case project! I don’t know what I would do without you!

Week 34

Dear Parents,
I am cherishing these last few weeks with your kiddos. They have learned so much this year! We have been focusing on measuring in Math. They have been busy this week searching our room for items that are certain lengths and also measuring things in inches, yards, centimeters, and meters. It is fun to watch as they successfully measure each item with the appropriate measuring tool. In language we are learning about using pronouns correctly … yes we should no longer be saying Josh and me, but Josh and I! In reading we have learned about animals and their homes and have made a quadrama which will be coming home. In science we have had fun exploring the different characteristics that animals have. Ask about how we saw like owls, insects, frogs, and cats. We learned that larger ears help animals hear better by using different sized cups. We tried making different animal prints with paint. In social stidies we are finishing up our Bell Books which are full of special facts about our country.

We had a wonderful time on our field trip to LISDOLA! I was so relieved that the weather held off and we were able to go. Learning and fun was had by all!  Our group was so good that Mrs. B took them on an extra long hike to a stream area! You should be very proud of your children!

     * The week of May 25th the second grade will be participating in swim lessons. A permission form is going home today. Please return it by next Wednesday.

Week 33

Dear Parents,
We have just completed the second three week period in our last 9 weeks. All my students are doing well, so no mid-term reports will be going home. I want to tell you, before it gets too busy, that this has been a stellar year. This group of children have been one of the highlights of my career. As a whole, they are caring , hard working children, who really enjoy learning! They want to know more, to do more. This is a teacher’s dream. I love all my students and look forward to hearing about the wonderful accomplishments they will achieve in the future. For this reason, I always give out my personal e-mail address. (Just in case one of my students wishes to get in touch with me in the future: bac91764@yahoo.com) I plan to be at CRE for a long while yet, but we all know how life can change. Each of my students own a piece of my heart. I send it along with them into the future. This position as their teacher is a gift. I hope I have given a gift back to each one of them; to believe in themselves, know we all make mistakes, and  that we can fix any mistake to create the future we each desire. Learning from our mistakes, and growing are the keys! Thank you for sharing your children with me this year. Thank you also for the beautiful flowers, the kind notes, the sweet treats and gift cards. You were all so kind to think of me. The best gift of all has been each day spent with your children.
          * Our field trip is next Thursday. Please make sure that sunscreen and insect repellent are applied to your children before they come to school. They are to bring a disposable water bottle and sack lunch. Everything will be thrown away after lunch, but water bottles can be refilled. All students must wear long pants and closed- toed shoes. A hat is recommended. There are ticks this time of year. Have your child take a hot bath when they return home. Just to make sure they have not brought a tick home with them.

        * Your children have a special Mother’s Day gift … I don’t think anyone will forget, but … They have worked in the classroom, the art room, and the computer room. I hope you feel special. They all think the best of you!

What a fun day!

Week 32

Dear Parents,
We have had another great week of learning. In reading we have continued to question, think and wonder while we read two really interesting books: Recess at 20 Below and Biggest, Strongest, Fastest. We even researched to find the answers to some of our unanswered questions. In language arts we finished up adverbs and learned about compound words. We learned the meaning of new compound words such as homesick and arm chair. In math we were learning time to the minute as well as area of shapes marked in square units. Science has continued to be fun as we watched all the insects in our rooms. Our meal worms have slowed down on their moving and eating and we think they will be entering their pupa stage soon.
Field Day was a great success!

* Please send in one plain, white pillow case by next Friday. We create a special second grade keep sake. If you buy a set of two and would like to donate one to help out another student that would be great! I will need at least three mother volunteers to help write a poem with sharpie marker on 6 pillow cases. I give you the poem. You just trace it through the case. If you would like to help with this (it can be done from home) please let me know. I will collect the 18 pillow cases, send them home with 3 helpers, then we will complete them at school.
