Week 12

 Dear Parents,

This week in reading we had a reading checkpoint over The Big Red Lollipop. We listened to the story  Ghost Afraid of the Dark. We then wrote a response to “ I am not a ghost! I am a …” We listened to  Three Hens and a Peacock. We then discussed what a topic and a theme of a story is. We filled out a graphic organizer as a class telling the topic and theme or moral learned in the story. We talked about the central idea of a story as we read Pepita and the Bully. On Friday we listened to I need My Monster. We got to create our own monster friend and are bringing home a kit to create a monster.

In math we have been focusing on subtraction with regrouping. We reviewed what we have been learning and then took our sub unit quiz on Friday. We will continue to practice adding and subtracting with and without regrouping.

In writing we continued to work on developing our beginnings, middles, and ends of our imaginative stories. We learned how to revise using show, don’t tell emotions. We also learned about linking verbs and verb tenses.

In science we built a class listening device that could help us hear across the room. We took our unit assessment and then began a new unit on Force and motion. We set up our unit, and had two days of activities involving pushes and pulls. We discussed  our activities using our academic vocabulary for this unit.
