Week 22

 Dear Parents,

We had another wonderful week of learning activities together as we started the month of February. In math we were focusing on solving the many different kinds of word problems. It is important for the children to be able to read and understand what the problem is asking them to do and then use our strategies to solve those problems. We had a break from the problem solving as we practiced adding with regrouping through a scoot around the room and played add 9 or 10 Bingo. On 100th Day we flipped a coin 100 times, raced a partner to 100 by rolling a die and did 100 exercises throughout our day. We also counted out the pieces of our 100 piece snack. In writing we finished up our poetry unit and began our unit on research. We are doing a class research paper on Helen Keller. They are learning what the important parts of a biography are. We also wrote a paper about what we will be doing when we are 100 years old. In reading we read a story about Helen Keller, focused on the central idea and looked for the supporting details. In Social studies we focused on our map skills as we learned how symbols represent different things on a map. We studied map keys to see what some of these symbols were. We also learned about Groundhog Day and had a Groundhog Day snack. In science we took our unit assessment about natural and manmade resources. We began our unit on Objects in the sky. I sent home a two week homework paper. The children are to track what they see in the sky from Feb. 1st-14th to earn 6 stickers for their chart!

  • We are in need of more glue sticks. Please send some to school. We could also use the square sticky notes if you would like to donate some for our research project.

Action  : We are in need of this agreement by Feb. 12th.

PK-3 parents will need to sign the Technical Equipment Loan Agreement form if they want their child to be able to bring home their assigned iPad in the event of quarantine or remote learning.

This agreement provides several assurances:

  • Parents/families want the iPad sent home
  • The device will be taken care of and returned to LISD in its assigned condition
  • Should a family need a hotspot, the loan agreement will be used for issuing hotspotsPlease note, families should first communicate hotspot needs to campus administration.

Yearbook Flyer: The yearbooks are $25 with an option of personalization for an additional $5.00.  The flyer includes a live link that will take you straight to our school order on the Balfour page.
