Welcome to my blog! My name is Beth Carpenter! I am a 2nd grade teacher at Coyote Ridge Elementary. I majored in Early Childhood Education and have taught for 22 years. Week 35

 Dear Parents,

This week in math we continued looking at and making bar graphs and pictographs. We had fun choosing a question, asking our classmates the question while making a tally chart, then transferring that information to a bar graph. Last we analyzed our graph by answering questions. We took our assessment on Thursday.

In writing we are having fun researching our chosen animal. We researched what they looked like and where they lived and drafted these sections of our informational text. I hope all is going well with the making of their habitat box at home. These are due May 17th. Let me know if you have any questions.

In reading/social studies we learned about our seven continents and our 5 oceans as we colored and labeled a map. We read the story Sea Otter Pups and used our skills of monitoring and clarifying as we read. We did very well on our selection test.

We also learned about Cinco de Mayo and completed a booklet.

In science we have been learning about food chains. We learned that plants are producers that get eaten by animals and insects that are consumers. We talked about the transfer of energy and finally how that energy is broken down by decomposers.

From Our Librarian, Mrs. Hernandez:

Hello CRE families!

I would like to start by saying thank you for all the support that you give the library in creating responsible library users!  This week was the last week to check out books!  Next week, the students will visit the library to return all books and learn about Summer Reading Challenges and opportunities happening around our local libraries!  Students Pk-2nd grade will come in on Thursday (5/12) and students 3-5th grade will come in on Friday (5/13).  Please help your child remember to have their book in their backpack and ready to be returned.  I will be sending notices on Tuesday, May 17th to all students who still have books out.  Please reach out to me if you know that your child has a missing book.  You have the option of paying for a replacement with cash/check (please make is payable to Coyote Ridge ES) or with a credit card online.  If you choose to pay online please email me so I can add the fine to Revtrak.  I hope that you guys are geared up to have a great summer full of reading and relaxation!
