Welcome to my blog! My name is Beth Carpenter! I am a 2nd grade teacher at Coyote Ridge Elementary. I majored in Early Childhood Education and have taught for 22 years. I have taught grades K- 3 which gives me a unique ability to know where my second graders fit within those grades. Teaching is more than a profession to me, it is a calling. Week 12

 Dear Parents,

In math this week we have been working on time. We started with time to the minute and realized we needed to slow down. We then reviewed time to the hour, half hour, quarter hour and by 5’s. Today we were ready for time to the minute. We also learned what  time of day A.M. and P.M. are and talked about specific times and what we are doing at that time. We realized that we eat lunch at 11:30 A.M. We learned that the area of a shape is the inside. We measure the area in square units.

In writing we continued writing our narratives and then mid-week began brainstorming our next writing project- an imaginative story! We listened to several stories, brainstormed characters and settings, then planned out our beginning, middle and end. We learned to show our character’s emotions in our writing through actions and descriptions.

In reading we read a true story about a baker who helped his country. This biography showed the class what a person of character does. We learned to synthesize information and organize the important information in order. We took our comp check on Thursday. Friday was pumpkin day. Be sure to ask your child about all our fun activities.

In science we planned a group sound project and took our comprehension check.

*CRE "Stuff the Pumpkin" Food Drive

Coyote Ridge ES is joining the other schools in LISD in our annual food drive for families in need. Hunger hampers a student’s ability to learn, concentrate and perform well. In 2009, Texas was one of five states with the highest rate of “food insecure” children under 18. The Stuff the Pantry drive, a joint effort between Christian Community Action (CCA), Metro Relief, and Lewisville ISD, will help provide food for LISD families throughout the year.

We will be collecting food donations during Red Ribbon week, and the week after  (October 24 - November 4th).  We will collect food and keep score this entire week! We will see which class has the most donations by the end of the week!

The following items are worth 2 points:

  • Pie Filling
  • Canned Fruit
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Evaporated Milk
  • Canned Yams
  • Instant Potatoes

All other items are worth 1 point each.

The class with the most points will receive extra recess!! We can’t wait to see who will win!

Where do we put the food donations? The Student Lighthouse Team will be in charge of counting and collecting all food items from individual classrooms. Please have your child bring his/her items to their classrooms, and collections will take place at each room every day.

If you are donating large numbers of items that can't be easily carried to the classrooms, you may clearly label the lot with the teacher's name and bring them to the front office. Thank you in advance if you're able to assist in this effort to help out families in our community!
