Week 24

Dear Parents,
It has been a fast week! The weather did not cooperate with school this week. The children were disappointed about the rescheduled  field trip, however it will be much more enjoyable in the warm month of May! It is rescheduled for May 14th. We worked on a research pyramid in social studies this week. We began our unit on money and started counting groups of coins. We enjoyed our reading story of focused and worked on recognizing the story elements. The language focus has been the to be verbs as well as irregular verbs. We are beginning our science unit of objects in the sky.

  • Time line projects are due on Monday! We will also present and enter grades that day. Please make sure your child brings theirs!
  • We are preparing a lot of work for open house! Your child will show you a computer project he/she has been working on in computer lab as well as well as a portfolio we have been saving work for from the beginning of the year. I hope to see you there!

Eating Noodles with Chopsticks!

Week 23

Dear Parents,
We had a wonderful week of learning! I’m trying to let your children have a little more responsibility of their own completing work and managing their work time. It is working in some areas, but I will still manage others as about 2/3 my class did not do their word work at school last week. Spelling needs to be practiced at home as well, but please stress with your children that daily practice at school will also improve their spelling scores! The children are enjoying learning the concept of division as repeated subtraction or dividing a number into equal groups in Math! Please make sure that your child continues to fill out both reading and math logs Monday-Thursday and that they are brought to school ready to turn in on Friday! Your children are interested in our science unit about natural and manmade resources. We are talking about conserving some of our natural resources and how everyone can help. We are wrapping up our unit on verbs and beginning adjectives. Using these words will enrich our writing. In social studies we have been studying how things are made. From collecting materials, getting them to the factories, making them, and getting them to the stores where consumers can buy them.
Jump Rope for Heart is well under way.  Our goal is $4,500 and for every student to donate $5.00 on line.  Friday, March 6 is the last day of Jump Rope for Heart.  We are asking students wear read and bring a healthy snack on this day.  Thank you for you continued support.  You can donate online at heart.org/jump  .

Have a wonderful weekend!

Valentine's Party

Week 22

Dear Parents,
We had another wonderful week of learning in second grade. We started division in math! We finished writing our 100 year old me stories and our verb poems. We learned helping verbs and verb tenses this week and will next learn about linking verbs. We read an interesting informational text about jellyfish and learned the difference between facts and opinions! We are continuing to finish up landforms and our photo stories in the computer lab. We are learning about natural and manmade resources all around us!

Thank you to all the parents who made our Valentines Party a success; from sending in party items, coming to enjoy the festivities, and help in planning the afternoon. A special thank you to Cate Crane for pulling it all together!Look for pictures of the party on our blog on Sunday! There was lots of fun going on. I heard one child say, “ This is the best party I’ve ever had!” Everything you do to help partner with us at CRE creates a happy learning environment where children thrive!
