Welcome to my blog! My name is Beth Carpenter! I am a 2nd grade teacher at Coyote Ridge Elementary. I majored in Early Childhood Education and have taught for 22 years. I have taught grades K- 3 which gives me a unique ability to know where my second graders fit within those grades. Teaching is more than a profession to me, it is a calling. I love to help light the fire of curiosity to help all my students become lifelong learners!

Week 31

Dear Parents,
We continued this week learning about solid shapes in math. We counted vertices, edges, and faces. We compared these three dimensional shapes and said how they were alike and different. We finished compound words and began talking about synonyms. We read the story the Lorax and wrote about how we might save the Earth by keeping it clean! In science we discussed how an animal’s or plant’s environment can decide whether they might thrive or perish. We have begun a Bell Book in Social Studies as we learn more about our Country’s landmarks, monuments, and symbols.
We enjoyed our visit to LISDOLA on Wednesday. The children enjoyed seeing this outdoor center and discovering what animals, plants, and insects live there. We had a caterpillar turn into a chrysalis in our classroom and emerge a beautiful butterfly! We were happy to release it yesterday in such a wonderful habitat! I wish you could have heard the children as they waved at the butterfly and said goodbye. It was a very sweet moment! Check out our blog to see many pictures of the learning activities we shared.
* Please Look for the Swimming permission Form. We need these back by Tuesday.
*Please send in a plain, white pillow case needed for each student in second grade for a special keep sake project
PLEASE SEND THESE IN BY Monday! There is much prep work to do to get these done before the end of school. I also will need two more volunteers that can help at home with tracing a poem on 6 of the pillow cases. Mrs. Lundrigan has already offered to do six of them. I will send everything you need to help us home with your child next week and you will have a week to get them back to me. Just respond to this e-mail if you can help.
