Week 30

Dear Parents,
We had a great week in math working with fractions. We learned that all the parts must be equal to be able to write a fraction. We learned that we can write fractions telling about all those parts depending on how many are shaded. We learned that if all the parts are shaded it equals one whole. We then had more than one whole divided into halves, fourths, or eighths. We talked about those figures as only fractions and also as wholes and fractions. We review on Monday and have our test on Tuesday.
In writing we are continuing to write poems using sensory words and picking topics that are small moments, but give us big feelings. We really enjoyed eating a rice krispie then taking that experience and writing a poem. We cannot wait to put together our books and share them with you.
In reading we are combining our learning with social studies as we discover what  our local, state and federal governments do. We are creating a flip book and learning about what  our mayor, governor, and president do to help run the government so we have services and laws that make our community a great place to live.
In science we began looking at animal characteristics. We looked at ears, eyes, teeth, feet, limbs and body coverings. We then decided how those different parts help the animals survive!

*Yearbooks- One More Chance to Order!
We have 47 yearbooks still available to purchase online. The deadline to order online at balfour.com has been extended to April 26 (or until we sell out). Yearbooks will be delivered to the school in late May. The price of a yearbook is $26. Go to Balfour.com and search for Coyote Ridge to order.

*Book Swap!
Save the date for our first CRE book swap!  Book donations will be accepted the week of April 23 - April 26th. Then students will have the opportunity to visit the library with their homeroom to select new to them books on May 8, 9, or 10th.  Gather your gently used books to donate for the swap. Our goal is for every student to receive at least one book, whether they donate a book or not. Additional information will be going home in Friday Folders next week.

  • Please send back the spring picture packet or the money to pay for the pictures. There are five sheets of pictures. You may purchase all or  1 sheet and pay only for what you keep!

  • Please send in any money collected for Boosterthon in the envelope that went home in your child’s daily folder last Wednesday as soon as you have collected it.

  • Some children have some overdue library books. If your child got a print out of books needing returned sent home in his/her coyote folder please help him/her locate these books and return them as soon as possible.
