Welcome to my blog! My name is Beth Carpenter! I am a 2nd grade teacher at Coyote Ridge Elementary. I majored in Early Childhood Education and have taught for 22 years. I have taught grades K- 3 which gives me a unique ability to know where my second graders fit within those grades. Teaching is more than a profession to me, it is a calling. I love to help light the fire of curiosity to help all my students become lifelong learners!

Week 32

Dear Parents,
This week in math we have been learning all about our three-D solids and two-D shapes. We realized that some of the plane shapes are faces on the solid figures. We learned that when we build with our solids we can make a new shape. We also are learning the names of all the plane shapes. Did you know that a dodecagon has ten sides and ten vertices?
In language some of us are finishing up our poems. We are also learning about adverbs and trying to incorporate them into our writing. They tell how, when, or where an action is done.
In reading we read a story about animal homes and filled in a graphic organizer about the story. We have also continued on with our map skills as we learned what borders are.
In science we continued to learn about animal characteristics and behaviors. We got to look at some skulls and fur of real animals and talk about how the characteristics we observed help those animals survive. We talked about hibernation as well as migration. Our butterflies were set free last Friday. We were so excited when they finally emerged from their Chrysalises! You can see pictures of this on our blog.
Field Day was rainy, but we still managed to have some indoor fun! Check out our blog to see highlights.

  • A special assignment went home last Thursday night in your child’s daily folder. We are working on an animal research project at school for the next four weeks. To go along with this paper, you and your child will research his/her chosen animal and fill out the fact page. You will then use this information to create a diorama of that animal’s habitat. There needs to be everything that animal needs to survive like a water source , vegetation and or prey for that animal. I look forward to seeing your child’s work by April 24th!

*Yearbooks- One More Chance to Order!
We have 47 yearbooks still available to purchase online. The deadline to order online at balfour.com has been extended to April 26 (or until we sell out). Yearbooks will be delivered
to the school in late May. The price of a yearbook is $26. Go to Balfour.com and search for Coyote Ridge to order

*Book Swap!
Save the date for our first CRE book swap!  Book donations will be accepted the week of April 23 - April 26th. Then students will have the opportunity to visit the library with their homeroom to select new to them books on May 8, 9, or 10th.  Gather your gently used books to donate for the swap. Our goal is for every student to receive at least one book, whether they donate a book or not. Additional information will be going home in Friday Folders next week.

              Library Volunteers Needed!
We need volunteers next week to help with library inventory and sorting book swap donations.
