Week 22

Dear Parents,
This week in math we continued learning problem solving strategies by using sticker notation and by using a number sentence. We worked on charts practicing 10more/10 less and 100/more/100 less. Base ten blocks  were used to aid our thinking. We even had to get out a thousand cube!
In reading we continued on with our map skills learning about a map key. We also celebrated Chinese New Year on Monday. Your child got to eat long noodles for good luck. We used Chop sticks. We also each got a fortune cookie. (Panda Express donated the chop sticks and fortune cookies)Check out our blog for pictures. We continued the week learning about nonfiction text features and created a book choosing five of them.
In language we wrote our Middle of Year Writing Sample to be scored on the LISD rubric to see the growth from the beginning of the year. We then learned about articles as a special kind of adjective. We finished the week by picking adjectives that best describe ourselves.
In Science we began unit 9 Pattern of Objects in the Sky. We modeled hat happens to make the different phases of the moon using children, a tennis ball, a globe and a flashlight. We then played a lunar phase game to pick out the missing phases on the monthly chart. We ended the week with a talk, read, talk, write activity.
