Welcome to my blog! My name is Beth Carpenter! I am a 2nd grade teacher at Coyote Ridge Elementary. I majored in Early Childhood Education and have taught for 22 years. I have taught grades K- 3 which gives me a unique ability to know where my second graders fit within those grades. Teaching is more than a profession to me, it is a calling. I love to help light the fire of curiosity to help all my students become lifelong learners!

Week 30

Dear Parents,

This week in math we continued our unit on fractions. We counted fractional parts, drew lines in shapes to make fractions two different ways, reviewed for the assessment and took the assessment on Thursday. We did VERY well! I’m so proud of their work!

In writing we finished our final copy of our class procedural paper on how to draw a crab. We made a circle map of all the things we know how to do and chose an idea for our individual procedural paper. We began it this week and will begin taking it through the writing process. We learned about borders between states and countries in social studies this week.

In reading we read about plants. We read a Scholastic News on Rainbow plants and got to try rainbow carrots thanks to Mrs. Martinez. We read a nonfiction article called Experiment with What a Plant Needs to Grow. This inspired our class to want to try some of the experiments because they had many unanswered questions.

In science we continued learning about what plants need to thrive, the parts of plants and what those parts do.

Here is the sign up link for Spring Conferences. These are student lead conferences so please have your child attend with you. You will put the name of the parent/parents attending and your child’s name when you choose your slot. I am looking forward to meeting with you and your child.

  • Book Drive- The WHOLE Month of April

This is Coyote Ridge’s 6th year using the Leader in Me Program. In order to continue growth and learning at home, we will send home a newsletter each month that will focus on a different habit. By the end of the year we will have discussed all 8 habits at school and home. If your family participates in ALL 8 newsletters, you will be showcased in our school as a Lighthouse Family!

In your child’s Friday Folder is the April Habit Newsletter. Attached to the newsletter is an activity that corresponds with the monthly habit of April, Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. There is also a QR code that you can scan and listen to a story with your child and ask discussion questions given from the newsletter. Please assist your child in completing the activity and sign/return the activity sheet to their homeroom teacher by Wednesday, April 6th

  • April 6th  is also Sharpen the Saw Day! We want to see the entire school wear as many colors as possible, or RAINBOWS, for Habit 7 on Wednesday!
  • We will be tracking grade level participation for returning the activity sheet. The grade level with the highest percentage of participation for April will receive a grade level choice reward! Awesome job 4th grade for having the most family participation in the month of March!
