Welcome to my blog! My name is Beth Carpenter! I am a 2nd grade teacher at Coyote Ridge Elementary. I majored in Early Childhood Education and have taught for 22 years. I have taught grades K- 3 which gives me a unique ability to know where my second graders fit within those grades. Teaching is more than a profession to me, it is a calling. I love to help light the fire of curiosity to help all my students become lifelong learners!

Week 27

Dear Parents,
Although the week seemed to go by quickly, we continued to grow in our learning! In Math we reviewed solving problems by plugging our numbers from the story problem into a part, part, whole frame. The children could decide from there whether it was an addition or subtraction problem, then solve. We also looked for patterns on tables and had to decide what the rule of the table was. Then we could complete the table and answer questions.
In science we finished up the water cycle. The class did well as they had learned through many hands on experiments. We will begin looking at the phases of the moon next week. If you have a chance this weekend, show your child the moon in the night sky.
In language we finished up our adjectives, learning about adjectives that compare. We learned when comparing two things an er is added to the adjective. When Three or more things are compared we add est to the adjective.
The children enjoyed reading about the life of Helen Keller. They could not believe all that she could learn without seeing or hearing. She is a great example of someone who never gave up!
The children had a great time at our movie and treat reward day for their economics unit. They were happy to spend their money on snacks, drinks, and candy while they watched their movie! It was a great way to wrap up this week as they realized the harder they had worked, the more money they had to spend.
I’d like to take this time to welcome another new student, Sofia Martinez! We are excited to have her join our classroom and look forward to getting to know her!

I’d also like to congratulate Emily Reagan for being picked for the court of our Jump Rope for Heart Queen. That means she thought of others and collected a lot of money for the Heart association. She was in the top three student collectors of our school!
