Dear Parents,
The children were sleepy on Monday, but were ready to get back to work. We finished up our unit on money and began a unit on patterns. This is a tricky skill for second graders so I will be sending home all the math homework pages from the book so that they can practice at home. In language the children wrote about a person who means more to them than gold. Their loving hearts showed up in this writing activity. Make sure you put their pot of gold writing in their portfolio to keep after I send them home. For now they will be hung outside our classroom. In reading we read the story “Dex the Heart of a Hero" and compared and contrasted the main character’s character traits as they changed from the beginning of the story to the end of the story. In science we continued learning about the weather as we continued to chart it each day. We also began learning why we have seasons as well as the decisions we make about what we will wear and the activities we do depending on the weather and the season. In social studies we were learning about maps, globes, oceans, and continents on our planet Earth.
We did a great job participating in the penny war for a good cause. Thank you so much for donating coins for the children of PediaPlace. As second graders are working on counting money, we counted the coins brought in by first grade. Today we did not get a total, but we counted over $87 dollars in silver coins and bills for first grade. The pennies they brought in today filled their entire can!
We had our Jump Rope for the Heart assembly today. Dylan Clemons from our room got to appear in the program. I will upload the video and pictures to our blog. He did an excellent job and even earned a special heart award from Coach Pacio for all his effort!
In your child’s Coyote Folder is a sheet telling you what color shirt your child will wear on field day. They will be part of a color team. It’s a half sheet so make sure you look for it.
Have a great weekend with your families!
